Clayton First Town in County to Launch Local Emergency Management

The Clayton Fire Department has added an Emergency Management position to its Administrative Division. The new Emergency Management position is the first of its kind in the county and has long been the dream of Fire Chief Lee Barbee, who has served as Clayton’s fire chief since 1991. The ‘Main Street Fire’ as it has been called over the years, was one of the biggest in the modern history of Clayton. MOODY'S UPGRADES TOWN'S BOND RATING TO Aa1
Moody’s Investors Service recently upgraded the rating on the Town of Clayton’s general obligation bonds from Aa2 to Aa1, a move that potentially could allow the Town to borrow at lower interest rates and save taxpayers’ money over the life of the bonds. Aa rated obligations are judged to be of high quality and are subject to very low credit risk. Aa1 is the highest level in the Aa category assigned by Moody’s.

Clayton Police To Participate in April 23 Operation Medicine Drop
What’s in your medicine cabinet? If it’s unused or expired medications – either prescription or over the counter – the Clayton Police Department, in partnership with SafeKids Johnston County, can help you dispose of them safely. Operation Medicine Drop (OMD) is Friday, April 23, from 10 am to 1 pm. All you need to do is gather any unwanted medications and drop them off at the Clayton Police Station, located at 315 E. 2nd Street.

Clayton Youth Council Wins Top Honors at Spring Convention
Clayton Parks and Recreation’s Clayton Youth Council (CYC) earned two top honors at this year’s State Youth Council Spring Convention. The CYC is a teen-run volunteer organization for high school students in Clayton. The council is made up of 56 members and was recognized at a virtual state convention on April 10.

Registration is open for residents for the Clayton Parks and Recreation Department’s Camp Clayton summer camp. The 2021 Camp Clayton theme is “Camp Wayback,” and it will run Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The eight-week camp will begin on Monday, June 7 and end on Friday, Aug. 6.

Clayton Police Department’s latest investment in a new vehicle has already paid off for the department’s Crime Scene Investigations Unit. The vehicle – a 2021 Ford Transit 250 high top van – was used at two major crime scenes in the past 10 days. One, an armed robbery at the Clayton Walgreens and the other, a hit-and-run accident on US 70 Business near Walmart.

Parks and Rec Expands Programming in April
April is just around the corner, and with it comes expanded opportunities for activities through Clayton Parks & Recreation. From outdoor fitness classes to gardening, spring sports and other programs, the Parks & Rec staff is ready to welcome you back. The Community Center reopened in early March and is operating on a modified schedule with strict COVID-19 guidelines.
