Growth Plan Update
About 40 residents turned out to an Open House on Nov. 10 to have their say in the future of Clayton. The public engagement session was one of four opportunities for the public to comment on updates to our Comprehensive Growth Plan, which helps guide the growth, redevelopment and overall improvement of the Town. Individuals interested in participating in the process who could not attend the meeting can take our community survey. Additional opportunities to participate in the process will include a walking tour of downtown and a virtual public meeting.

Christmas in Clayton 2020
The Grinch called COVID-19 may be stealing 2020’s Christmas Parade and traditional Christmas Village and Tree Lighting, but it can’t keep the Christmas spirit from coming to Clayton. Town staff and volunteers have been as busy as elves working to plan alternative holiday activities that will bring the community together to celebrate the season in this era of social distancing. The storefronts are decorated along Main Street and Santa Claus is coming to town on a Fire Truck!

Water Reclamation Facility Public Meeting
The Town took a pivotal step in its efforts to build the proposed Neuse River Water Reclamation Facility by holding a public meeting on Nov. 16. The meeting is the first step in the state’s environmental review process for the $120 million project. The project is the largest in the Town’s history and one of the biggest municipal projects in the state. The public can comment on the project through Dec. 23. The Town expects to begin the project's RFQ process by the end of the year.

Loose Leaf Collection
It happens every year. Leaves begin to fall and All Star is there to pick them up. Our annual loose leaf collection services began on Oct. 1 and will continue through Jan. 31. Over the next four months, you'll see the All Star curbside vacuum collection crews in your neighborhood picking up the leaves you rake to the edge of your lawn. The vacuum truck will come once a week (on the next business day following your garbage day). You can also bag your yard waste, but remember to use clear bags! Other restrictions apply to yard waste left at the curb as well.

Harmony Playground Open
The Town’s first inclusive playground became a reality for the Clayton community on Thursday, Oct. 22, when Clayton Mayor Jody McLeod and the Town Council officially cut the ribbon to open the Harmony Playground presented by Caterpillar at East Clayton Community Park. The Town, in partnership with the Clayton Community Recreational Foundation and numerous community partners large and small, worked tirelessly to build the inclusive playground, which allows children and their guardians of ALL abilities to play together.

PARKING LOT EXPANSION
A long-discussed expansion of the E. Horne Street parking lot at Town Hall and The Clayton Center will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 3. In order to accommodate the new parking lot, E. Horne Street from Fayetteville Street nearly to Church Street will permanently close to thru traffic. The expansion will more than double the number of parking spaces currently available and will add much needed spaces for Horne Memorial Methodist Church, the Clayton Library, Town Square events and other special events in downtown during peak times of need.

CHAPTER 160D PRESENTATION
Town staff held a public meeting on Nov. 10 to discuss Chapter 160D revisions with interested residents and members of the development community. The 160D changes will affect development processes governed by the Town’s Unified Development Code, including site plan review procedures, quasi-judicial requirements and planned development zoning. The presentation was livestreamed on our YouTube channel for individuals to attend virtually. That recording can be accessed at the Town's YouTube channel.
