The Town of Clayton will begin accepting applications for the 2026–2027 Clayton Sculpture Trail on September 1, 2025. Local artists are especially encouraged to take part in this annual tradition that brings art to everyday spaces. The call is also open to artists from across the country who want to share their creativity through outdoor sculpture, helping transform Downtown Clayton into a free, walkable art gallery enjoyed by all.
From now through October 1, 2025, professional artists are encouraged to apply. Selected sculptures will be on display from March 2026 through March 2027. The Town offers honorariums for each selected piece, along with a $1,000 People’s Choice Award voted on by the community.
“The Sculpture Trail brings color, energy, and creativity across Clayton,” said Public Art Advisory Board Chair Dane Martin. “It sparks curiosity, builds community, and starts conversations. Each piece offers something new. It’s a chance to pause, reflect, and feel something together. Public art turns everyday places into spaces that inspire and connect.”
Now in its twelfth year, the Clayton Sculpture Trail highlights the power of public art and its role in making the Town a more beautiful and engaging place to live, work, and visit. The trail offers artists a chance to showcase their work in a highly visible setting, surrounded by parks, shops, and gathering spots.
Sculptures will be placed throughout Downtown Clayton, inviting tens of thousands of people to discover and enjoy them at their own pace. The trail encourages everyone, from families to art lovers to casual passersby, to experience something new with each visit.
“These beautiful works of art are conversation pieces,” added Martin. “It is about sharing stories, stirring emotion, and giving people a reason to stop and look around. Every sculpture brings a fresh energy to our streets.”
