A Special Events Permit is required to hold an event on any public property in the Town of Clayton. If you are interested in planning an event please contact the Special Events Coordinator Amy Shearin. The application is available here 

Clayton Farm and Community Market

Open every Saturday, April through October from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Clayton Farm & Community Market sells everything from local farmers with not only their fresh veggies and fruit but also local honey, locally made soaps, crafts and much more.  The market is located at Horne Square, 348 E. Main Street, corner of Main and South Lombard Streets.  There are two Holiday Markets, one in November and the other in December as well as Winter Markets from November through March.

Halloween Hayride

Meet Halloween characters, play games and win prizes as you ride around the trail at Clayton Community Park. It's normally the Friday before Halloween from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. $5 per child over the age of 2. Adults ride for free.


Boo Bash - Halloween Special Needs Dance

We've added a special Halloween-edition of our popular FREE dance for special needs participants in middle school, high school and adults! Wear your favorite costume and come dance the night away!– we just ask you wear soft-soled shoes so we don't scuff up the gym floor at the Clayton Community Center. Great volunteers from Clayton Youth Council and other organizations help make this possible. Check back for the 2020 date!

Downtown Clayton Trick or Treat

Trick or Treat in Downtown Clayton! This holiday tradition is designed for those with little legs to put on their costume and take over Main Street…marching down the street and sidewalks where they are greeted by local business owners waiting to hand them goodies and treats. Once you've filled up your bags, everyone is invited to Town Square (corner of Main and Fayetteville Streets) where the fun continues with games and more goodies for the children. Friday, October 30, 2020, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. Please check back as COVID-19 may alter plans for this event. 

Harvest Festival

Organized by the Clayton Chamber of Commercethis is by far, the biggest event in the Town of Clayton drawing an estimated 20,000+ people from all over the state to downtown for 5 days of music, vendors, food, rides, performances and so much more for the entire family. The 2020 Clayton Harvest Festival has been canceled. Instead the Clayton Chamber of Commerce is planning the Spring Fling Festival from April 21-25, 2021. Christmas Village and Tree Lighting 

Every year, more than 5,000 people head to Main Street on the first Thursday after Thanksgiving for the festive and popular “Christmas Village & Tree Lighting.”   Mark your calendar for the 2020 installment of this great event on December 3 as the Clayton Downtown Development Association, Inc. (CDDA) closes Main Street for 2-1/2 hours of music, holiday cheer, a business open house, and, of course, the traditional tree lighting at Town Square. Santa Calls

Would your children love to get a call from Santa? He'll be making calls to Clayton children the second week of December! This is a free service for children age 3 to 8. Sign ups start the week of Thanksgiving each year. 



Santa’s Workshop

Enjoy a family morning before the annual Clayton Christmas Parade and join us from 10 a.m. to noon at the Clayton Community Center! Children can make crafts and visit with Santa, Free with the donation of two canned goods for Clayton Area Ministries which serves needy families in the Clayton area. Please check back as COVID-19 may alter this event.

Christmas Parade

There’s just something about a small town Christmas Parade! Sponsored and organized by the Clayton Rotary. the event features more than 100 colorful floats, booming marching bands and of course, Santa Claus!  Join us along Main Street on the second Saturday in December at 3 p.m. to grab a front row seat anywhere from Smith Street to Robertson Street.  Mark your calendar for December 12, 2020! Breakfast with Santa 

Ages 5 & under with a parent are welcome to come to the Clayton Community Center to enjoy a stack of delicious pancakes with Santa Caus! You'll also make a holiday craft. Pre-registration is not required but is encouraged! Please check back as COVID-19 may alter this event.


 Santa Paws

Do your furry friends want to meet Santa?! New in 2019 this event quickly became a popular option to get our four legged family members in on the Santa pictures! Join us on a Saturday morning in December for free Santa pictures, a chance to see a K-9 demonstration and visit with local dog themed vendors. Please check back as COVID-19 may alter this event.


Spring Special Needs Dance

Easter Egg Hunt

The annual Easter Egg Hunt at Clayton Community Park is annually held on the morning of Good Friday, each year.  The Egg Hunt is for preschoolers (roughly age 5 and under) and will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. The Easter Bunny and Clayton Fire Department will be on hand at 9:30 a.m. to take pictures with the whole family! Plan to arrive early, parking is VERY limited.

Brunch with the Easter Bunny

Children ages 5 & under are invited to join the Easter Bunny for a pancake breakfast, craft and a story with the Easter Bunny!  Check back for the date!

NC Senior Games

Are you 50 or older?  Do you know someone that is 50 or older? Get out for some fitness, fun and friendship! For more than 3 decades, the Johnston County Senior Games has been celebrating athletes in events ranging from the 100 meter dash to corn-hole, from pickleball to basket-weaving. Check back for registration and dates. Stop by the Community Center for more info and an application, register online or email Matt Lorion at mlorion@townofclaytonnc.org for more information. 

Clayton Road Race

The annual Clayton Road Race is held on the second Saturday in May on the streets of Downtown Clayton. Prior to COVID-19, the race was scheduled on Saturday, May 9, 2020  at 9 a.m. for the 37th running of this popular 5K. It was RESCHEDULED to Saturday, August 8.  And has now been officially canceled. Please check back for new dates when it becomes possible to run public races again. This is a certified course by US Track & Field so timing chips and free T-shirts are provided! 

Senior Recognition Day

Always the third Friday in May in the Council Chambers of The Clayton Center at 111 E. Second Street. Citizens ages 55 & up are invited to join us for a little fun and excitement as Clayton appreciates its Seniors! Clayton Parks & Recreation is proud to team up with Free food, music and entertainment for your enjoyment! Unfortunately our May 15, 2020 event was canceled by COVID-19, but we look forward to seeing you in 2021! 

July 4th Celebration

Unfortunately, our Independence Day Celebration in Municipal Park on West Stallings Street in Downtown Clayton has been canceled due to COVID-19 state restrictions. We are all disappointed and will miss the 6 hours of fun that we normally plan, topped off by the best fireworks show around! Instead this year, we had an awesome FREE virtual concert with the Malpass Brothers - click here to watch the wonderful video event!
