Town of Clayton Water Tower at Sunset
Welcome the Town of Clayton, North Carolina

The Board of Adjustment serves to interpret the Town’s ordinances and polices for unique situations or special cases.

Board of Adjustment

For example, the Board makes decisions about requests to allow a “conditional use” – a use that could potentially have negative impacts on surrounding properties, but with the right circumstances could be an allowed use. The Board also decides whether to grant variances – deviations from what the Town’s ordinances allow. The Board is a “quasi-judicial” board, which means the Board’s power is above that of the code enforcement officer, but below that of the court system.
