Welcome the Town of Clayton, North Carolina

Clayton Heading To Help Hurricane Irma Victims

In the dark of morning today, two Town of Clayton employees got up, gassed up and headed south to give back.

Luke Smith and Conner Franks are two Clayton Public Power linemen now heading to Florida to wade through a tangled mess of power lines and destruction to restore electricity to so many hurting families. Hurricane Irma snapped power lines and damaged vital electric equipment, leaving as many as 15 MILLION people in Florida without power! It could be weeks until everyone is restored.

Luke and Conner weren't asked to go. They volunteered.

They are responding with about 27 of our friends from the other ElectriCities of NC towns like Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Tarboro, North Carolina and Apex, North Carolina. Their caravan left Dunn, NC this morning around 7 a.m.

Clayton Public Power Director Dale Medlin says he's confident these young men are trained physically and mentally for this task. These are extremely dangerous conditions that they are going into to, but they are up to the task to restore the power in a safe and efficient manner.

They are expected to be gone about 2 weeks, work safely and get home soon!! We know that were we the ones in the eye of the storm, we'd need the help of others and we're glad we can lend a hand to help our neighbors to the south.

Join us in wishing them the wisdom and courage to perform their task using common sense and training! Godspeed!
