Story Times, Book Clubs, Teen Game Night and Other Programming Return to Clayton Library


The renovations at Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library are nearly complete, and it's time to get back in the swing of our regular programming for 2018! Read below for everything you need to know about story times for children and babies, teen game night, crafting programs and our books clubs. Children's and Baby Story Time – Starting  Jan. 23

We are modifying our story time schedule! We have tightened the length of our programs to make them more age-appropriate for our children, we’ve updated the schedule, and we’ve added an additional baby story time program to allow more people to attend!

Children's Story Times

  • Tuesdays from 4:30-5:15 p.m. – Starting Jan. 23 – Stories, crafts, and special guests designed for kindergarten to 5th-grade students.
  • Wednesdays from 11-11:30 a.m.  – Starting Jan. 31 – Stories, crafts, and special guests designed for preschool children ages 2-5.
  • Saturdays at 10 a.m. – Starting Jan. 27 – “Stories with Liza” – Stories and take-home activities designed for preschool children ages 2-5.

Baby Story Times

  • Wednesday from 9:30-9:55 a.m. – Starting Feb. 7 – Baby songs, stories, giggles, and rhymes for children 2 years and under with their caregivers.
  • Thursday from 9:30-9:55 a.m. – Starting Feb. 8 – Baby songs, stories, giggles, and rhymes for children 2 years and under with their caregivers.

Teen Game Night – Starting Jan. 25 – 4:30-6:30 p.m. Every 2nd & 4th Thursday

Attention middle and high school students! Show up, grab a snack, play games, and connect with other players! We have strategy games like Settlers of Catan and Dominion, along with classics like Risk, Monopoly and Uno. If you have a favorite game, we’d love for you to bring it and teach us! If you’re not into board games or card games, you can always pull up a bean bag and enjoy the Xbox One.

Crafting Programs

Adult Coloring Club – Next Meeting Feb. 12 – 5-7 p.m. Every 2nd Monday

Coloring isn't just for kids! It can actually help adults combat stress! Adult Coloring Club is  in the library meeting room. 

Knit & Crochet Night – Next Meeting Jan. 31 – 5:30-7 p.m. Every 1st, 3rd & 5th Wednesday

Knitters and crocheters of all levels and ages are welcome! Please bring your own needles and yarn. Knit Night is every 1st, 3rd & 5th Wednesday evening from 5:30-7 p.m. in the library meeting room.

Book Clubs for Adults and Kids

Monday Night Adult Book Club – 6 p.m. Every 3rd Monday – Next Meeting Feb. 19

Book discussion, opinion sharing, refreshments, and lots of fun! The next book on the list is Bill Bryson's autobiography, "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid." Book Club is open to young adults and up in age. New members are always welcome. 

J Club (ages 7-12) – 6 p.m. Every 3rd Thursday – Next Meeting Feb. 15

The group will read "Absolutely Almost" by Lisa Graff for the next meeting on Feb. 15. Meets September through May in the meeting room. Newcomers are always welcome! Please email Ms. Mary for the monthly book title.

Code Club on Hiatus

Our Code Club is going on hiatus while we completely re-imagine the program. Stay tuned for updates about tech programing for kids.
