Clayton Police Arrest Murder Suspect

A murder suspect is behind bars.

20-year-old DALLAS LAMAR PHILLIPS of Hogan Drive in Garner was arrested earlier today in the 1st Degree Murder of Dustin Rogister.

He is now behind bars at the Johnston County jail being held on no bond.

Victim Dustin Haywood Rogister of Clayton, who just 2 days shy of his 23rd birthday, was found dead from a stab wound inside his car after it crashed into a power pole on April 9th on Shotwell Road. Detectives had been working to identify and arrest Rogister’s killer ever since and appreciate the help from the public in sharing information about the crash and the suspect.

Detectives believe Rogister and Phillips knew each other, but at this time, exactly what lead up to the murder is not confirmed.

The April 9 accident just off busy US70 ended up splitting a power pole in half and leaving dozens of homes and businesses without electricity for several hours. Emergency responders assumed the driver had been injured and killed in the car crash, but after the live electric lines were removed from the car and they could get closer to the victim, they realized his wounds were not consistent with a car accident. That’s when homicide detectives from Clayton Police took over.
