Notification of Wastewater Release in Johnston County

General Statute 143-215.1C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment facility to issue a news release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.

On August 5, 2020, the Town of Clayton had a discharge of untreated wastewater caused by a sewer force main failed. Approximately 2,400 gallons of untreated wastewater were released from the damaged pipe. The untreated wastewater entered a storm drain and drained to Ferrell Spring Branch located behind 553 Averasboro Dr.

The Division of Water Resources was notified of the events on August 5, 2020 and is reviewing the matter.
