Welcome the Town of Clayton, North Carolina

Clayton’s Finance Department is on a winning streak!

11/03/2020

Clayton’s Finance Department is on a winning streak – for the 19th consecutive year, the Department has earned the government finance industry's top honor.

The Town’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for fiscal year 2019 won a “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States (GFOA). This is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. Finance Director Robert McKie was recognized for this achievement by Mayor Jody McLeod at the Nov. 2 Town Council meeting.

The CAFR is produced to provide the Mayor, Town Council, Town staff, residents, bondholders and the general public with useful information about the Town of Clayton's operations and financial position. Our Finance Department goes well above and beyond the minimum accounting standards to make sure the work of our town is transparent and fully disclosed to taxpayers.

This marks the 11th year in a row that the Town received the award under current Clayton Finance Director Robert McKie. Former Finance Director Nancy Medlin, now Clayton's Deputy Town Manager, took home the award 8 times before that.

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
