NOTIFICATION OF WASTEWATER RELEASE IN JOHNSTON COUNTY

General Statute 143-215.1C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a news release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.

On November 12, 2020, the Town of Clayton had a discharge of untreated wastewater caused by a severe rain event. Approximately 7,000 gallons of untreated wastewater was released from a manhole near the WWTP located at 1000 Durham St. The untreated wastewater entered a storm drain leading to Little Creek.

The Division of Water Resources was notified of the events on November 13, 2020, and is reviewing the matter.

For more information contact the Town of Clayton Utility Service Superintendent, Byron W. Poelman at 919-553-1530.
