Welcome the Town of Clayton, North Carolina

Town of Clayton Public Playgrounds & Restrooms Closed as of Monday, March 23

Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, March 23, all Town of Clayton playgrounds and restrooms will be closed and off limits to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Greenways, trails and open space continue to remain open for Clayton residents and families to enjoy the outdoors.
So far only three people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Johnston County, but several cases of community spread (where the exact origin of the contact cannot be traced) are now appearing in other surrounding counties.
While Clayton Parks & Recreation staff were disinfecting the playgrounds and all restroom facilities in Town parks each morning and we saw parents practicing frequent hand-washing and sanitizer use with their children, these added closures will help stave off even further restrictions.
“I really want to thank everyone for being so great about following the guidelines that are helping slow the spread in our community” said Mayor Jody McLeod. “And it’s because so many people are being cautious that we’re definitely not at the point we feel a stay-at-home order is necessary. We want people to get outside with their children and we want families to continue getting take-out and supporting our local businesses. As long as we keep practicing social distancing and washing our hands frequently, Clayton will get through this.”
Please follow these rules as you continue to visit our greenways, park trails and open space:
•    Refrain from using parks or trails if they are exhibiting symptoms.
•    While on greenways/trails, alert other users of your presence as you pass, and step aside to let others pass.
•    Always observe the minimum recommended social distancing of 6 feet from other individuals. If this isn’t possible, please find another area in the park.
