Welcome the Town of Clayton, North Carolina

Saturday: Library to host Free "Anne of Green Gables" Event with Cast of Upcoming Clayton Youth Theater Production

We're partnering with Clayton Youth Theater to promote reading, theater and community engagement ahead of CYT's production of "Anne of Green Gables" set for Feb.22-24 at The Clayton Center! We've got free books, a chance to meet the cast ahead of time and, of course, tickets available for the big show! (CYT also distributed free copies of L.M. Montgomery's classic novel for readers to pick up around Clayton, but all of those books have been claimed.)

At 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, register to bring your elementary school-aged children to Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library for a chance to meet the CYT cast and catch a special sneek preview of several scenes from the play! As a special bonus, we'll host a drawing in which one of our participants will win a set of four vouchers to see the full play at The Clayton Center the following weekend! This event is REGISTRATION ONLY and limited to 50 attendees. Register in person at the library or by calling the front desk at 919-553-5542.

And be sure to get tickets to the full play, which is showing 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22; 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23; and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at The Clayton Center. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students 18 and under, plus sales tax and fees. Buy tickets online or come to the box office at The Clayton Center.

Cherished by generations of “kindred spirits,” L.M. Montgomery’s beloved novel Anne of Green Gables comes to life in this stage adaptation by Peter DeLaurier.

Anne of Green Gables follows the misadventures of Anne (spelled with an “E”) Shirley — a wildly independent orphan with fiery red hair and a temper to match. Anne is mistakenly sent to live with a plainspoken farmer and his spinster sister, who thought they were adopting a boy! She wins over the Cuthberts and all of Prince Edward Island with her irrepressible spirit and imagination — and wins over audiences with this warm, poignant story about love, home and family.
