Welcome the Town of Clayton, North Carolina

The Patrol Services Division is responsible for the prevention and suppression of crime.

Patrol DivisionThis division consists of sworn officers who answer calls for service which come into the Johnston County Emergency Center and conduct self initiated activity.

These officers are on four different patrol squads. Each squad consists of four officers, one sergeant and one lieutenant.

The Patrol Division also encompasses specialty units which include the Bicycle Patrol Squad, K-9 Unit and Honor Guard. These divisions are used to address issues outside the more traditional role of law enforcement and to handle special needs.

K-9 Unit ImageThe K-9 Unit of the Police Department maintains one dog team which consist of a handler and K-9. This is a uniformed position which includes specially marked police vehicles. In addition to working together, K-9 Officers take the dogs home at the end of their shift. Along with general patrol duties, the K-9 Officers provide building searches; evidence and suspect searches; tracking; and narcotic detection. The K-9 Officers also serve a community education and outreach role by making public appearances with community groups.

Bike Patrol ImageThe Bicycle Patrol Unit is able to field a number of officers trained and equipped for bicycle patrol on specialized bikes with Police markings and equipment. Each of these officers has a primary job responsibility separate from bicycle patrol. The officers are deployed during the evening hours throughout the summer to address problems that seem amenable to bicycle patrol. Bicycle patrols are faster than foot patrols, less obtrusive than motorized patrols, can go places motorized patrols cannot, and provide greater face-to-face interaction with the community.
