Here's a message about what's ahead from our brand new Parks & Recreation Director Scott Barnard:

If you have lived in Clayton for any length of time, ‘new’ is something you are used to. New neighborhoods, new neighbors, new restaurants and new businesses have become the norm. When it’s ‘new year’ or ‘new car’ or new home,’ we tend to grow excited in anticipation of the thrill of the unknown. But when it’s a ‘new job,’ the anticipation is often mixed with nervousness. Questions like, “Am I going to fit in?” or “Will I be successful?” rattle around in our heads. You may even wonder, “How will I fill the shoes of the person I am succeeding?”

As your new Parks and Recreation Director, I have all of those feelings and more. I am excited to join the team that provides sports, special events, art programs, playgrounds, parks, greenways and much more to enrich the lives of our citizens and visitors. I am thrilled to succeed Larry Bailey, who poured more than 33 years of his life into making Clayton Parks and Recreation a department envied and modeled by others around the state. That said, the bar is high and I know you expect the best in innovative programs, dynamic parks and stewardship.

I am bringing more than 18 years of experience and a lifetime love for parks and recreation to Clayton. I look forward to meeting you all and serving the Clayton community. Swing by and say hello, shoot me an email, give me a ring or look for me in the parks!
