Here's a message about what's ahead from our Parks & Recreation Director Scott Barnard:

Welcome to summer!  I hope you and yours will have an opportunity to recharge your batteries during this season. I love the longer days, flip-flops, shorts, and, in my case, a lot of sunscreen.

If being outside is your thing, Clayton has a lot to offer. Between greenways, mountain bike trails, playgrounds, tennis courts, a disc golf course, sports fields, and a dog park, there is a place for you to get away without leaving town.  There are camps of nearly every description and  opportunities to learn new things with us, as well as the dynamic folks at the Clayton Library and The Clayton Center. There are great places to discover nearby, including Clemmons Educational State Forest in Clayton and Howell Woods in Four Oaks. There are free concerts and outdoor movies scheduled in Town Square, the Clayton Farm & Community Market in Horne Square, and, of course, July 4th at Municipal Park.

If inside is where you would rather be, Clayton has you covered as well!  Arts, pottery, fitness, performing arts, educational programs, the indoor walking track, gymnasium and much more await you between your Clayton Community Center, the Clayton Library and The Clayton Center. If you are looking for it and can’t find it, use our staff as a resource to point you to opportunities here and beyond. If we can’t find it….chances are we’ll try to offer it soon.

If you’re new to town, plan to avoid the crowded beaches and have friends and family come to you, so you can ALL enjoy our traditional 4th of July celebration together.  It is everything you and yours are looking for between the activities, music, food, fireworks and time of fellowship with your neighbors. Please join my family in making this event a tradition. As we close in on the 4th, the schedule and details will be all over social media and flyers throughout town. Municipal Park will be the place to be starting at 4:00 p.m. and culminating with fireworks at dark. Bring a blanket, lawn chairs and your appetite. We’ll see you there!
