Equal Employment Opportunity:

It is the policy of the Town of Clayton to foster, maintain and promote equal employment opportunity. The Town selects employees based on each applicant's qualifications for the job, and provides compensation and opportunities for training and promotion without regard to race, color, ethnicity, sex, gender, age, religious affiliation, disability or any other characteristic protected by law.

Americans with Disabilities Act:

It is the policy of the Town to comply with requirements of the regulations contained in the U. S. Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

The Town will not discriminate against people with disabilities in any employment practices or in terms, conditions or privileges of employment, including, but not limited to, application, testing, hiring, assignment, evaluation, disciplinary action, training, promotion, medical examination, layoff/recall, termination, compensation, leaves or benefits.

Drug Free Workplace:

On November 18, 1988, Congress passed the Drug-Free Work Place Act of 1988. This statute requires employers, such as cities and towns, who are recipients of Federal grants, to certify that they will provide drug-free work places. Making the required certification is a precondition for receiving a contract or grant from a federal agency.

To that end, all employees are advised that it is now, and always has been, the policy of the Town of Clayton that:

It is unlawful to manufacture, distribute, dispense, possess or use a controlled substance in any workplace in the Town of Clayton.  Employees may be required to pass a drug screening prior to employment and at any random time during employment.  Failure to comply with the Town Drug Free Workplace Policy may result in various penalties up to and including termination.

E-Verify:

This employer will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee’s Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.

Minimum Wage:

Minimum Wage: $7.25 per hour (effective 7/24/09). Employers in North Carolina are required to pay the higher of the minimum wage rate established by state or federal laws. The federal minimum wage increased to $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009; therefore, employers in North Carolina are required to pay their employees at least $7.25 per hour.

Diversity:

Diversity is increasingly seen as an asset to organizations and linked to better performance.  It is an integral part of how we do business and imperative to our civic success.  The Town of Clayton recognizes that our people need to reflect our customers and local community.  We understand that building a diverse and inclusive workforce will result in improved service for our citizens.
