Infrastructure Improvements for Development
Work is expected to begin soon on $287,763 in infrastructure improvements for a new 51-home gated community to be built on Vinson Road near the Glen Laurel Subdivision.
The work includes water and sewer lines, sidewalks, widening of Vinson Road and a road into the subdivision. A Jobs Creation grant from the Rural Center and a Safe Route to School grant from the state will pay for part of the work, and the developer will pick up the tap for the rest.
The construction will be handled by EBG, Inc. of Clayton, who entered the lowest of five bids on the project.
The new Planned Use Development, to be called "The Woods at Glen Laurel," will also include an office building and day care center. Developers Thompson-Lee Inc. promise to save as many trees as possible during construction, in keeping with the town's tree preservation program. A wide walking trail is also planned to weave through the area.
Houses on the 31.2-acre tract, intended for those 55-years-of-age and older, will range in cost from $250,000 to $400,000.
