New Town Web Site Getting Heavy Use

The town's new, modern website, which is crammed with all sorts of information as well as daily news updates, is proving to be quite a hit with residents--and a lot of others, too.

The site has gotten more than a million hits over the last year, from nearly 25,000 visitors. That's an average of more than 3,200 hits a day--and usage is growing.

“That's just fantastic,” said Mayor Jody McLeod. “We're very proud of our new web site, and we're happy that so many people are making use of it. As you may know, we're upgrading our computer system right now so that we can offer more and more services on-line and provide as much information as possible. Communication is extremely important in today's world, and we want to make sure we're doing the best job we can.”

Though it appears most of the hits are from locals seeking information, town services or the town's latest news, the number of hits from other states--and other countries--suggest that many are seeking information for travel, relocation or business reasons.

“We designed the web site to serve all those functions,” the Mayor said, “and economic development is an important one.”

While 60 percent of the hits came from inside the state, more than 60,000 came from the state of Florida and both South Carolina and California had more than 40,000 each. Nearly 27,000 came from New York. But what might be more surprising is the number than came from outside the United States. More than 3,700 hits came from Canada, while China, Germany and Denmark had more than 2,000 each.

The statistics show that Tuesdays and Thursdays are the busiest days for the site, and that most visit in the afternoon and evening hours. The early morning hours from 7 to 10 am have the lightest traffic.
