Project Will Connect Gap in Water Pipeline
Work is slated to begin in August to connect a gap in a major 16-inch water pipeline through Johnston County that stops when it gets to Clayton.
The pipeline, which could be an important source of water in an emergency situation, stops at Robertson Street coming from the west and at Lombard Street coming from the east.
"This is our main source of water from Johnston County," Town Manager Steve Biggs told the Town Council this week. "This is a very important project that will allow for a much more efficient delivery of water."
The town will split the $325,041 cost with the County.
The contractor on the project is Seaside Environmental Constructors, Inc. Work is expected to take about three months.
" Completion of the line is important, because it will improve how water circulates within the Town's system and also how water may be delivered to the Town and elsewhere by the County," explained Public Works & Utilities Director Tim Simpson.
