Completion Near on Water Control Project
Work is nearly complete on a stormwater drainage project at the edge of downtown that replaced a large stormwater control pipe that has rusted with age and began to collapse in places.
The project started directly behind the Food Town grocery store, and extended to Lombard Street in the first phase of construction. Then, in the second phase, which began shortly after Labor Day, pipe was replaced all the way around to Canady Street. Just a small bit of work remains.
"We're very proud of this project," said Town Manager Steve Biggs. "It was a very important project for the area, and it has gone very well with a minimum of disruption for residents."
The town replaced a failing corrugated metal pipe with a HDPE (high density polyethylene) pipe that is easier to install, much studier and longer lasting, Biggs said.
The $200,761 project replaced nearly 775 feet of pipe.
The contractor on the project is Corbett Construction Company of Selma.
