Thousands Crowd Downtown for Tree Lighting

The nearly 4,000 people who poured into downtown for the annual Christmas Village and lighting of the town Christmas Tree got an unexpected special treat--Mayor Jody McLeod singing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!"

The song, which brought loud cheers from the crowd, was just one of the many musical and other performances up and down a decorated Main Street throughout the night.

"It was awesome to see so many people here celebrating together," the Mayor said. "This is truly a wonderful time of year to live in Clayton."

More than 25 decorated downtown businesses were open, serving treats to visitors and adding to the festive atmosphere. Even Santa Claus stopped by.
