Registration Underway for 2011 Senior Games

Registration is underway for the 24th annual Johnston County Senior Games, which features several events in Clayton.

The Games, which are open to anyone 55-years-of-age or older, are scheduled for April 4-15. The deadline for registration is March 18.

"We're happy to be holding a number of events here in Clayton, including the opening ceremonies," said Parks & Recreation Director Larry Bailey. "A lot of people from around the County will be visiting Clayton for the games, which should have a positive impact on our local economy."

A $10 entry fee covers most sporting events and the SilverArts events.

Athletic events include basketball, shuffleboard, horseshoes, cycling, bowling, bocce, golf, billiards, croquet, spin casting, swimming, tennis and track and field. 

Arts events include heritage (quilting, knitting, needlework and more), literary (essays, poems, short stories and life experiences), visual (acrylics, drawing, photography and more) and performing (comedy, drama, vocal, dance and instrumental).

Opening ceremonies will be held at Clayton High School.

Events in Clayton include several track & field events at the High School, including a race walk, fun walk, spin casting, football throw, softball throw, long jump, shot put and discus throw: Bocce and cycling at Clayton Community Park and bowling and billiards at Rainbow Lanes.
