The Town Council has given its blessing to a master plan by Developer Fred Smith to build a 238-home Seniors Community on Pritchard Road, complete with a clubhouse and shopping center.

A proposed 80-unit Senior Care Facility will be part of the mix in future years.

“We want housing for older folks,” Smith told the Council. “These communities are in high demand. We think this will be a positive for Clayton.”

The Senior Community and retail facilities are the first phases of a proposed 267-acre Mixed Use Development to be called Riverwood Ranch. When completed in future years, it will include 737 units of various housing types, two commercial areas including a medical office park, and common open space with amenities.

The new development is located on the north side of Pritchard Road, across from the Riverwood Athletic Club development.  The project approval calls for significant improvements to Pritchard Road including a lane addition from the eastern property line to the intersection at Riverwood Athletic Club Boulevard, a left turn lane into the new development for eastbound traffic, dedication of additional right-of-way for future lane additions when additional phases develop, and installation of a sidewalk along Pritchard Road.  A traffic signal will be installed at the developer's expense at the intersection of Athletic Club Bourlevard and Pritchard Road once total traffic volumes warrant per NC DOT standards.
