Electric Crews Ready for Winter Storm
Clayton Public Power line crews are standing ready to make quick repairs, and residents are being asked to call the usual utilities phone number -- 919-553-1530 -- to report any outages caused by the winter storm.
The call should be made regardless of the time of day, as always, officials said, but residents are being asked to use good judgement. If the outage appears to be widespread, then a call will probably not be necessary and might contribute to a clogging of phone lines, making it difficult for new outages to get reported.
Customers of Progress Energy should call 800-419-6356.
If you see that electric service has been restored to those customers around you but you are still without service, a follow-up call would be appropriate--and please explain the circumstance to the dispatcher, so they do not perceive it as a new outage.
Please do not call to ask when power will be restored. Local crews will be mobilized as soon as problems occur, and they will work through those repairs until completed. The dispatcher will not know when a particular area will see service restored.
If your electric service has been interrupted but your neighbors have service, you should check to see if the line that runs from the distribution system to your house has been damaged. If so, the Town crew will repair the service line and seek to restore service--but if you have damage to the weather head (the entry point to your house) or the meter base, you may also need an electrician. A Town technician can advise you whether that is the case, based on your individual circumstances.
