Preventative Maintenance Tree Trimming

Over the next few weeks, you'll probably notice a lot of tree trimming going on in several parts of town.

Clayton Public Power has contracted with Asplundh Tree Expert Company to begin the town's annual preventive maintenance tree trimming along overhead power lines.

The areas of concentration will be east of Lombard Street and south of Main Street. It will also include the neighborhoods on both sides of Highway 70 from Lombard to the end of our line near Chloe’s Furniture. They will end up on the overhead circuits out Highway 42 East and the Glen Laurel Road area.

"This preventative maintenance work is designed to prevent tree growth from getting into the power lines and causing outages, and also to lessen the chance of limbs reaching the lines during ice storms or other adverse weather conditions," said Electric System Director Ronnie Wood.

Though sometimes it appears that some trees get a lot of limbs removed, Wood said the crews are well trained and take care to protect the health of the trees they trim.

The pruning is set up in three-year rotating cycles, which means about a third of the service area gets trimmed each year. For more information, please contact The Town of Clayton’s Operation Center at 553-1530.
