See a Streetlight Out? Report it, Please
Ever notice a street light go out--or start flickering--while you're out for a jog or riding around town in your car?
If so, Clayton Public Power, the town's electric company, would like you to log on to the Town's website and let them know. A special section on Clayton Public Power's part of the website, "Street Light Outage," is devoted to gathering information from residents so needed repairs can be made quickly.
"If you drive around town at night, you will probably find a light out somewhere," said Electric System Director Ronnie Wood. "It's not unusual to discover a street light out, or cycling off and on, at any given time."
The town has more than 1,000 street lights and loses an average of three or four each week from a variety of causes. Sometimes a bulb, which lasts an average of three or four years, blows out or wears out. Other times it might be the fault of an overhead wire or underground cable.
The department depends on residents to help identify problems, so outages, whatever the cause, can be brief, Wood said.
To report an outage, please go to the Clayton Public Power page (Under For Residents) of the Town Webste or simply save this link to your favorites:
/Residents/PublicWorks_ReportOutage.aspx
When submitting a report it would also be helpful to list the DIS (Distribution Information System) number of the light pole, which is attached to the pole in black and yellow numbers.
