Sidewalks on Nine Streets Get "Reconditioning"
The Property Maintenance Department has just completed a sidewalk and curb reconditioning program on nine town streets, using a new process that brings them up to safety standards at less than a quarter of the cost of replacing them.
The approach extends the life of sidewalks without the disruption and cost of removing and replacing damaged sections.
"It works very, very well," said Superintendent of Streets and Facility Maintenance Steve Blasko. "We're also not putting anything into the landfill, which is fantastic."
Work crews of Precision Safe Sidewalks, using equipment patented by the company, repaired more than 10,000-sq.-ft. of sidewalk and more than 57 linear feet of curbing at a cost of $21,400, saving the town an estimated $88,000.
Work was performed on the following streets: Neuse Ridge Road, Birkdale Drive, Torrey Pines Drive, Lafoy Drive (from Parkridge to Birkdale), Cherry Laurel Drive, Knollwood Place, Warrick Place, Parkridge Drive (from Lafoy to Torrey Pines) and Neuse Ridge Drive (from Parkridge to Birkdale).
The town intends to move on to other streets where sidewalks need repair next year.
