Clayton Police Watching School Zone Speeds
Speeding in a school zone just got a lot more expensive.
Beginning with the start of school, the fine for speeding in a school zone went up from $25 to $250. With $188 in court costs added on, that adds up to a hefty amount. And, as if that wasn't enough, officials at AAA Carolinas say a violation of this type will likely trigger an increase in insurance costs.
"Our goal is for drivers to slow down in school zones to make our streets safer," said Chief Glen Allen.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol has out in force with an eye towards speeders in school zones, according to the NC Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. Clayton police have been watching school zones, too.
"The Clayton Police Department will continue to make school zone traffic safety a priority," the Chief said.
School zone speed limits are only in effect when school is in session. The zone is marked with designated school zone signs, which show the lowered speed limit, as well as give notice of the days and hours the reduced speed limit is in effect. Electronic flashers may sometimes substitute for signs.
