Pottery Classes Starting at Community Center
The Parks & Recreation Department has a series of new pottery classes at the new Clayton Community Center on Amelia Church Road.
The classes are open to both residents and non-residents, and Community Center membership discounts apply. Registration is being handled at the Community Center.

Here's a look at what's being offered:
BEGINNING WHEEL
Wheel thrown pottery is a great chance
to play in the mud! A combined class of
demonstrations and individualized
instruction will teach the basics skills
such as wedging, centering the clay,
throwing a cylinder,
attaching handles,
trimming and glazing
techniques to create
a variety of vessels.
No experience
required!
• Wednesdays - 10:00am-12:45pm or 6:00-8:45pm
• Class Dates: Jan. 12-Mar. 2

CONTINUING WHEEL
Are you an experienced thrower but
want to take it to the next level?
Through individualized and group
instruction, students will learn
techniques to improve your throwing,
trimming and handling of clay to create
beautiful objects. Through the use of the
potter’s wheel, hand altering, surface
treatments, learn to express your own
personal style!
• Thursdays - 6:00-8:45pm
• Class Dates: Jan. 13-Mar. 3
• Ages 16 & up
• $100/resident/eight week class

CONTINUING HANDBUILDING: FLOWER
CONTAINERS
Gardeners, floral arrangers, or just
lovers of flowers would be interested in
this six week class. Students will make
traditional vases large and small as well
as Japanese-style Ikebana vases. For
potted plants students will construct
planters of any shape for your
windowsill or porch. Using slabs and
extruded parts, students can make those
hard to find flower containers. Your first
25 lbs. of clay and 10 visit studio card
are included.

EXTRUDER WORKSHOP
Learn to use this handy tool to make a
variety of pottery creations from simple
to complex. The extruder pushes the
clay through a die to create a solid or
hollow shape. From these extrusions
students can make open or closed
pieces that are decorative or functional.
Surface decoration and glazing will also
be covered in this two day workshop.

OPEN POTTERY STUDIO
Open Studio is available to approved
potters and enrolled students in our
pottery program. A Punch card can be
purchased at front desk. Some tools are
available for use. Clay is purchased from
the Parks & Recreation Department for
an additional $25/25lb. bag.
• Thursdays - 10:00am-1:00pm & Tuesdays - 5:30 - 8:30pm
• Ages 16+
• $30/resident/ten visits
