All-Star Park Dedication Ceremonies Oct. 3

Official dedication ceremonies for the upgraded All-Star Park and Pavilion on Front Street have been scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 3 from 4 to 6 pm, and everyone is invited.

Mayor Jody McLeod, Parks & Recreation Director Larry Bailey, Town Councilmen and other community leaders will be on hand for formal ribbon-cutting ceremonies. Festivities will also include performances by local youth, activities on the basketball court and refreshments.

"Everybody is invited," Bailey said. "We especially want everyone in the neighborhood to come out, visit with each other, and see their wonderful facility."

The new "Bungalow Design" pavilion with bathrooms and picnic area at the front of the park is getting some finishing touches--including a new brick sidewalk by Brick-worker Donnie Baker of the Streets Department, while workmen install playground equipment and add last-minute landscaping. Already, the parking area and basketball courts have been upgraded.

Work on the park, which was originally built in 1983, is being financed through the bond issue for parks and streets approved by voters in 2008.
