Fitness Classes Beginning New Sessions

The Parks & Recreation Department has a series of fitness classes beginning new sessions at the Clayton Community Center on Amelia Church Road.

"This is a great way to get in shape," said Program Coordinator Matt Lorion.

The classes are open to both residents and non-residents, and Community Center membership discounts apply. Registration is being handled at the Community Center. Please contact Lorion at 553-1554 for more information.

Here's a look at what is being offered:

ZUMBA
ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music - dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system!. You'll Salsa, Merengue and Cumbia your way to better health. The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Zumba is a “feel-happy” workout that is great for both the body and the mind. "Ditch the workout and join the party!"
• Thursdays - 6:00-6:50 (Thursday Class Dates: June 2, August 1)
• Mondays - 9:45-10:45 am and 7:00-8:00 pm  (Monday Class Dates: June 6, August 1)
• Ages 18 & up
• $20/resident/six week class
• $35/non-resident/six week class

SENIOR LINE DANCING WITH WALTER
Line dancing provides great exercise for the body and the mind! Bring your friends and make some new ones as we get comfortable with basic steps while dancing to a variety of music styles. Pop, R&B, Country, Latin, Celtic, Jazz Standards...it's all fair game in the line dance world. No partner and no experience required. Please bring a pair of shoes with clean, smooth soles to change into so we can help maintain the look of the wood floors
• Tuesdays and Fridays 4:30-5:30 pm
• Class Dates: June 21 for six weeks
• Instructor: Walter Tallman
• Ages 55+
• Cost: $30 for residents and $45 for non-residents

SCULPTING
This class will use weights and other resistance equipment to build endurance and strengthen all the muscles in the body. This is a great addition to your aerobic workout.

• June 20 for six weeks
• Cost: $20 for residents and $35 for non-residents


YOGA
• Wednesday 9:45-10:45 am
• June 15 for six weeks
ALSO
• Thursdays 7-8 pm
• June 16 for six weeks
• Cost: $20 for residents and $35 for non-residents


BELLY DANCE
Belly Dance exercising helps in three areas: physical, mental and social. Physically become more flexible, gain better balance, and tune up the body/mind connection. Mentally become more acute by memorizing dance steps, coming to understand instruction and learning new terminology, history and culture. Expand your social horizons by meeting people outside your usual social group. Have so much fun you won't know you're exercising while learning the tantalizing secrets of the Orient.  Learn about the costumes, music, makeup and jewelry used to enhance the dance.

• June 7, July 26 for six weeks
• Cost: $20 for residents and $35 for non-residents


FUSION
Yoga/Pilates complement one another beautifully in this class appropriate for the new student or those who would like to integrate prior experience. Movements are designed to strengthen the core, increase flexibility, improve balance and relieve stress.  Please bring your own mat.
