Local Police Officers Win "Life Saving Award"

Two local policemen who helped save the life of a choking victim this summer have been chosen to receive the Police Department's "Life Saving Award."

Officers Greg Earp and Drew Medlin, responding quickly to an emergency call, managed to keep the victim alive until an EMS crew arrived. The pair performed CPR using chest compressions and an Ambu bag.

"I can't tell you how proud I am of these officers," said Chief Glen Allen. "Usually, when you read about police work, it involves some sort of arrest, and it leaves the impression that's all we do. But these two men and their fellow officers do a lot more than that, and this is an excellent example of it."

The victim, who had stopped breathing when the officers arrived, later recovered in an area hospital.
