Get Expert Help Finding A Job on Saturday

The state's "JobLink Mobile Unit" has scheduled a stop in Clayton Saturday morning, March 20, to assist area residents who are in search of a new or better job.

The traveling job-assistance unit will be at the Mount Vernon Christian Church at 300 N. Lombard Street from 9 am until noon. Later in the day, the unit has scheduled a stop at the Juniper Level Missionary Baptist Church at 9104 Sauls Road in Raleigh from 1:30 pm to 4: 30 pm.

More than 50 from the Clayton area have already notified the church that they will attend.

"I think it's going to be a tremendous help," said Rev. Alexander Herring of Juniper Level. "For a lot of people, when they find themselves unemployed, the process of recovering and finding another job can be somewhat overwhelming. We believe that bringing services to them, services that they might not otherwise get, will be helpful."

Job counselors will be on hand to offer career guidance, help with a job search, help with unemployment insurance claims and help with putting together a resume. Computers will also be available for conducting a job search or other online work.

Organizers are asking participants to bring with them any existing resumes and any other information that might be helpful in securing a job.

Counselors will also provide information on the job market, on available classes and training opportunities and veterans services. In addition, representatives from other agencies will be there to offer assistance and answer questions.

For more information, please contact Dr. Terence Leathers of Mount Vernon at 919-553-8539 or Rev. Alexander at 919-779-6401.

Next month, the Capital Area Workforce Development Board is presenting a "Resume Assistance & Review" from 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesday, April 20 at the Raleigh Convention Center. The event will also include a series of workshops for the unemployed and underemployed, including "Stress Less Interviewing," "Steps to Finding the Work You Want After 50," "From Losing Your Job to Owning Your Job," "The Power of Promoting Yourself at 50 Plus," "Make Your Resume Talk," "Re-Entry" and "Protecting Your Credit & Foreclosure Options."
