Are You Interested in Gardening Classes?

Want to learn to plant and grow a garden of your own---or grow a better garden?

If so, the Parks & Recreation Department wants to help.

The Department has scheduled a community meeting Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7 pm to gauge resident interest in gardening classes and to get insight on what topics would be best to cover. Officials hope the meeting, to be held at the new Clayton Community Center on Amelia Church Road, will also help them decide what class type would be best---hands-on, lecture or demonstration.

"We'll use what comes out of the community meeting as a springboard to deciding what would work best," said Program Coordinator Matt Lorion. "We've done some gardening classes in the past, and they've gone well, but we need to know how much interest is out there and the best way to plan this. We hope than everyone who has an interest in gardening, no matter what the level, will come out to the meeting and give us their input."

The Department intends to start a community garden at the Community Center site in the spring that could be used as a "teaching garden."
