"Live Burn" Training Exercise June 19

The Clayton Fire Department will block portions of two streets around a house at 400 E. Hinton Street Saturday, June 19 as part of a "live burn" training exercise.

The house will be set ablaze for a NC Firefighter I/II certification (Fire Control) class.

"We conduct this training to maintain skills necessary for combating interior fires in structures as well as other fire ground operational practices," said Training/Safety Officer Jason Dean in a report to the Town Council. "In order to maintain safety of our personnel and to meet specific guidelines set forth by NC Office of State Fire Marshal and National Fire Protection Association, we will need a traffic free area for apparatus, water supply lines, and a staging area."

Barricades will be set up from 7 am to 5 pm on E. Hinton Street at N. Lombard Street, West Street at Washington Street and E. Hinton Street at Cooper Street.

The Department is working with residents in the area to make sure the training activities cause them no problems. One neighbor with a medical condition will be spending the day in a nearby motel to avoid the smoke.
