McLeod, Lawter Jr. and Thompson Win Election

Mayor Jody McLeod and Councilmen R.S. "Butch" Lawter Jr. were reelected to new four-year terms and newcomer Jason Thompson won the remaining Council seat, according to unofficial results from Tuesday's town election.

Incumbent Alex Harding lost reelection by 17 votes.

Mayor McLeod, who ran unopposed for his third term of office, got 449 votes. Lawter got 402 votes, Thompson got 282 and Harding got 265 in a losing effort.

Lawter's win was his second straight and third term of office. He previously served on the Council from 1999 to 2003.

Harding had served two terms.

McLeod served four years as a Councilman before first winning the Mayor's seat in 2003.

Since Council members serve staggered terms, incumbent Councilmen Art Holder, Bob Satterfield and Michael Grannis have two years remaining on their term of office.

Elections for Town Council are held on odd numbered years. The Town's elections are nonpartisan and popular vote wins. Both the Mayor and Council members serve four year staggered terms.
