Three Candidates Seek Two Town Council Seats

Councilmen Alex Harding and R.S. "Butch" Lawter Jr., whose terms are expiring, will be challenged in this fall's town election by Jason Thompson.

Mayor Jody McLeod, who has served since 2003 following four years as a Councilman, will be running unopposed.

They were the only residents to beat Friday's deadline to file for town office. Two Council seats will be decided at the election, along with the Mayor's seat.

Harding first won election in 2003, and Lawter Jr. took office in 2009 for his second stint on the Council. He previously served from 1999 to 2003.
