Clayton Public Power Honored for Safety

Clayton Public Power, the town's electric company, was honored recently by power supplier ElectriCities for working through 2010 accident-free.

This is the second straight year Clayton has won the honor.

"That is a remarkable achievement," said Town Manager Steve Biggs.

Electric System Director Ronnie Wood was presented the award by ElectriCities Director of Safety and Training Jim Shill, who also praised Biggs and Town Safety Officer Jeffra Patton for promoting "a real safety culture" among the town's workforce.

"I feel honored, really proud of our work group," Wood said. "We're so thankful that we haven't had an accident in a long while. The nature of our work demands that we follow safety rules and look after each other. We do what it takes to get the job done, but we put safety first."

Clayton Public Power has done a considerable amount of work in recent years to upgrade the town's electric system, making it more reliable and efficient. As a result, outages are shorter and less frequent than in previous years.
