New Center Needs Books for Children's Area
The Parks & Recreation Department is asking the community to help furnish the children's area in the new Clayton Community Center with books and play items.
The Clayton Youth Council helped out with a book drive during April, and instructors for the Center's pottery classes are making special commemorative coffee mugs in a fundraising effort.
"It's a wonderful thing they're doing," said Program Coordinator Matt Lorion. "It's going to be helpful to our After School program, too, and our Summer Program."
The commemorative coffee mugs, available at the new Center, come in three sizes and sell for $8, $10 and $12.
"They are one-of-a-kind pieces," Lorion said. "Each one is unique. No two are the same. They're a great mug to have at home, plus they make a great gift."
All the proceeds from mugs sales will go to the children's space.
The Department plans to have child care services available at the new Center, which had its grand opening April 11, sometime later in the year.
