"Enhanced" Traffic Enforcement for Labor Day
Clayton Police will be using "enhanced" traffic enforcement procedures as part of the state's "Labor Day Booze It and Lose It" anti-drunk-driving campaign from now until Labor Day on Sept. 6.
The procedures will include "saturation patrols" and sobriety checkpoints around town.
"We're serious about keeping our roads and streets safe and we will use this holiday period to send the message," said Chief Glen Allen. "We urge residents to use extra caution while they're driving."
The campaign, which zeros in on drunken drivers, has proven effective in past years.
Drunk driving leads to thousands of traffic injuries and deaths across the country every year, the Chief said, and stepped-up enforcement during holiday periods could save lives.
