Senior Games Bocce Tourney Here This Week
The Parks & Recreation Department is gearing up to host the NC Senior Games State Bocce Tournament Oct. 12, 13 and 14 at Community Park's Bocce complex off Guy Road.
The event is expected to bring hundreds of participants, their families, friends and spectators to town. A record 192 seniors 55-years-of-age or older have qualified for the tournament by winning medals at one of the 52 qualifiers held around the state this spring.
"Participants will be coming from the mountains to the coast," said Director Larry Bailey.
Play will begin each day at 8 am and end about 6 pm. Medals will be awarded in multiple age groups in both women's and men's divisions.
The Regional Special Olympics Bocce Qualifier was held here in September.
