Youth Baseball, Softball Leagues Forming

Registration is underway for Youth Baseball and Softball, featuring leagues for children of all ages.

The cost is $20 per child for residents and $55 per child for non-residents. The deadline for registrations is Feb. 22.

Here is a rundown of the leagues:

• T-Ball (ages 5-6 coed - age as of 7/31/10)
• Coach Pitch (ages 7-8 boys - age as of 7/31/10)
• Tarheel Boys (ages 9-10, 13-14, 15-17 - age as of 5/1/10)
• Tarheel Girls Fast Pitch Softball (ages 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18 - age as of 1/1/10)

Practices and games are usually held on weekday evenings and on Saturdays. Practices for most leagues will begin in late April with games in May and June.

The ages 9-10 boys and girls softball league will begin in March with games April through June.

Brothers and sisters in the same age group and residing in the same household will be placed on the same team. However, requests for individuals (neighbors, relatives, friends, carpooling, etc.) to be placed on the same team cannot be honored because of the large number of participants. A birth certificate and medical insurance are required.

Registrations forms are available at the Parks & Recreation Department office, Town Hall and the downtown Hocutt-Ellington Library. Please drop completed forms off at the Parks & Recreation Department office during regular business hours or place them in the Town Hall utility payment box after hours or mail to the following address: Parks & Recreation Department, P.O. Box 879, Clayton NC 27528.

The Parks & Recreation office will be open on February 22 from 8 am - 8 pm to accept last-minute registrations.

Forms turned in to the office or postmarked after February 22 will be placed on a waiting list with youngsters placed on teams as needed.
