2011 Art Faire Winners Announced
Artist Anthony Ulinski of Raleigh and Photographer Robin Wynn of Havelock were the top winners in the 2011 Art Faire competition.
Ulinski captured the Margaret Ritchie Memorial Award of Excellence for applied art for his painting "Still Life with Two Blue Mugs," a 34-inch x 30-inch work in oil and wax on canvas.
Wynn won the Margaret Ritchie Memorial Award of Excellence for Photography for the photograph "Memorial Amphitheater," a 26-inch x 30-inch black-and-white photograph.
Both took home a $750 prize. The awards are named for the late newspaper editor who helped found Clayton Visual Arts, the competition's sponsor.
Clayton photographer Heidi Lee Peach and artists Susan Brabeau of Wendell and Fay Terry of Pinehurst won the three "Judge’s Choice" awards and took home $100 each.
Peach’s prize-winner was “Marina Port Vell,” a 20-inch x 16-inch color photograph on canvas. Brabeau’s winner was “And the Blue Ribbon Goes to…,” a 36-inch x 24-inch painting in oil. Terry’s winner was “Island Retreat,” a 36-inch x 48-inch work, also in oil.
Brabeau's painting also won the $25 "People's Choice Award," which was voted on by the 125 who attended a reception at The Clayton Center for the winners.
The competition attracted 53 entries, including 28 from Clayton. There were 15 photographs, 12 oils, 10 acrylics, 6 watercolors, 6 in mixed media, 2 in graphite and 1 each of waterless lithography and serigraph collage.
All the entries will be on exhibition at The Clayton Center during September.
