New Art Classes for Adults Beginning
The Parks & Recreation Department has a series of new adult art classes at the new Clayton Community Center on Amelia Church Road and at The Clayton Center.
The classes are open to both residents and non-residents, and Community Center membership discounts apply. Registration is being handled at the Community Center.

Here's a look at what's being offered:
ALTERED BOOKS
Join us in a new six week class to learn
the art of altering books. Take an old
unwanted book and turn it into a work
of art. In this class, student will explore
various methods to create an altered
book. The class will focus on creating
layered pages using collage, stamping,
pop-up and other interactive
techniques.

CALLIGRAPHY
Master the art of distinctive hand
lettering in this six week class.
Projects will include Old English, Italic,
Script, and Uncial. Express yourself
making invitations, greeting cards,
announcements, and award certificates,
etc. Bring your own writing instruments.

JEWELRY SILVERSMITHING
Learn jewelry fabrication using a torch
in eight weeks. Projects will
include basic design, soldering, sawing,
filing, drilling, tone setting, forms and
polishing. Students will also be
introduced to copper enameling. Tools
provided.

GREAT CROCHET BASICS
A new, exciting and creative six week
class to learn the basis of how to create
a beautiful Funky Chunky Scarf ready for
those cold evenings out. Students will
learn how to choose the right crochet
hook, match the hooks to the different
yarns, maintain the right tension and
gauge and crochet the different stitches
and techniques such as the simple
chain, single crochet, half double
crochet, double crochet and the
infamous treble crochet. By the end of
the class students will have five samples
of crochet stitches, in addition to
finishing a Funky Chunky Winter Scarf.

FUN WITH QUILTING
An exciting quick and easy quilting class
for beginners. You will learn the basics
of quilting, such as collecting, marking
your fabrics, cutting pattern pieces,
piecing your fabrics by hand sewing,
joining blocks and making a border to
finish and complete your project. Once
we have completed the twelve 9-piece
blocks (in your own color scheme) we
will be piecing them to create charming
patchwork tablecloth to fit into any
easy going area of your home.
