Comedy Quiz Show "Cash Cab" Here Nov. 6

Canadian comedian and host of Canadian Discovery Channel’s hit game show Cash Cab, Adam Growe, pulls into The Clayton Center on Sunday, Nov. 6, for a special presentation of his unique and uproarious stand-up comedy quiz show—in which he gives audience members the chance to participate for cash prizes live on stage.

The performance is a special event of The Clayton Center’s 2011-2012 performing arts season. The Clayton Center is a renovated and historic 600-seat auditorium located about 15 miles east of Raleigh.

Growe, who has hosted three season’s of Cash Cab, is one of Canada’s most accomplished stand-up comedians. On the TV show, Growe—a licensed taxi driver—offers unsuspecting passengers the chance to win cash on the spot by responding to trivia questions as he drives them to their destinations. If the passengers answer correctly, they continue on their journey; wrong answers could land them out on the street.

In The Quiz Show, Growe brings the Cash Cab premise to the stage, inviting a number of audience members to join him in a comic trivia contest. No one gets kicked to the curb for wrong answers, but they could be rewarded for participating with cash from Growe’s own pocket.

Growe has been performing in radio and television and on stage for more than 20 years. He has starred in his own Just for Laughs Gala, as well as Comedy NOW! on CTV and CBC's COMICS!. He also was featured on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend in New York and CBS’s Star Search in Los Angeles. Growe has performed at the Montreal, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Sudbury Comedy Festivals and appeared in two seasons of YTV’s Monster Warriors, as well as numerous acting roles in TV movies.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. Adam Growe performance are $18 for adults and $14 for students with a valid student ID. Tickets are available by phone at 919-553-1737, at The Clayton Center Box Office located at 111 E. Second Street in downtown Clayton from 10 a.m. until noon and from 1 until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or online at www.theclaytoncenter.com.

A second special event presented by The Clayton Center is The Johnny Folsom Four in a tribute to the Johnny Cash Show on Friday, Nov. 18, at 8 PM. The Clayton Center then resumes its 2011-12 Palladian Series with comedian Jeanne Robertson on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 8 p.m.

Other popular artists presented in past seasons at The Clayton Center include Kathy Mattea, Dianne Reeves, Ricky Skaggs, Johnny Winter, Jesse Cook, Jim Brickman, Doc Watson, Eileen Ivers, Riders In the Sky, the Harlem Gospel Choir and David Sedaris.
