High School Arts Students Want Your Vote

Students in the Fine Arts Department at Clayton High School, who have been working out of a former janitor's closet at the school, are trying to raise money through a contest sponsored by the hit television show "GLEE."

Schools receiving the most votes at a contest web site are eligible to win funding for their programs, so students and their supporters are asking residents all over town to logon and vote.

"We could use your help in order to get to the next level," said Ann Meigs, choir teacher at the school, in a note to supporters. "We are in need of many things in our Fine Arts Department. I have some talented kids but limited resources."

The popular network television show has teamed with Fox Television and the National Association of Music Education to award a million dollars to what it calls "music programs in jeopardy" all over the country. The contest is called "GLEE Give A Note."

Meigs, who is also music director for the Clayton Youth Theater, said supporters can cast one vote per day from their computers, smart phones or other internet-capable devices. Those with multiple devices can enter multiple votes.

The effort is also being championed by Youth Theater Director Nikki Dyke, who has gotten to know students at the school through the Theater's productions over the years.

"Needless to say, a better program at CHS will enhance CYT's program," Dyke said in a note to supporters.

The contest ends Nov. 7.
