Masterplan for Downtown Getting Updated
The Downtown
Development Association (DDA) has scheduled meetings May 20 and June 3 to update the town's 10-year-old downtown master plan.
All stakeholders in downtown, including property and business owners, are being invited to provide their ideas and suggestions.
“Overall, the existing plan is still fairly relevant, but there are issues and concerns that have evolved over the past 10 years that need to be addressed,” said DDA Design Committee Chair Boo Carver.
Areas of review include historic buildings, appearance, pedestrian access, new construction, public space, parking, growth, railroad, identity, US 70, mix of land uses/services, signage, safety, civic buildings, entryways to downtown and traffic flow.
The original plan was developed in 2001 by Brian Starkey of OBS Landscape Architects and Architect Carl Winstead. Both will be on hand to help with the update.
The May 20 meeting will be held from 10 am - 1 pm, and the June 3 meeting from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm--both at the Clayton Center.
The 2001 plan is available online at www.townofclaytonnc.org/Business/Downtown.aspx
Those planning to attend either session are being asked to contact Downtown Development Coordinator Bruce Naegelen at 553-1545 or bnaegelen@townofclaytonnc.org
