Town Hires New Finance Director

Robert McKie of Clayton has left his post as Financial Services Supervisor for the NC General Assembly to become the town's new Finance Director.

He takes over for highly lauded Finance Director Nancy Medlin, who was appointed Deputy Town Manager a few months ago.

"I look forward to the challenges of this new job," McKie said. "I'm excited about the opportunity, and I'm really looking forward to being a member of the Clayton team."

McKie, a Michigan native and graduate of Wayne State University, has more than 25 years of accounting and financial management experience. He worked in the oil and gas industry for more than two decades before coming to the Triangle Area in 2004 as Finance Officer for the state Division of Public Health. He is a member of both the American Academy of Certified Public Managers and the NC Society of Certified Public Managers.

"We really searched high and low for the right person," said Mayor Jody McLeod.

Medlin, a respected government financial official, said it is 'bittersweet" to leave the post where she was so successful and gained both state and national recognition.

"I'm sure I'm going to miss it," she said.  "But, in some ways, I'm not leaving it totally behind."

As Deputy Town Manager Medlin will supervise the Finance Department, the Customer Service Department and the Information Technology Department.

Over the years she has won many honors, including her profession's highest honor in Financial Reporting for the last seven years in a row. In addition, Town Auditor Kenneth R. Anderson told the Town Council recently that Medlin's department is doing "a great job. I think it's a well-run organization, with all the T's crossed and the I's dotted." She is also credited with helping the town recently improve its Financial Rating with Standard & Poor's from A to AA, a major achievement.
