Town Council Says "Good Bye" to Former Mayor
Mayor Jody McLeod and the Clayton Town Council recently presented a “Memorial Proclamation” to the family of former Mayor Herman E. Jones, honoring the longtime town leader who died a few weeks ago.
The Proclamation says the death of the former Mayor “leaves our community with a deep feeling of sorrow.” It was presented at a recent Town Council meeting.
It went on to say that, “Mayor Jones earned the respect, admiration and high regard of all whom he came into contact, and our community has sustained a great loss in his death.”
Mayor Jones was a Town Councilman for two years before serving as Mayor from 1975 to 1981, during the time the form of government changed here from Council/Mayor to Council/Manager.
“Our town is healthy and vibrant today because of the work and dedication of the great people who came before us, including Mayor Jones,” Mayor McLeod said. “We have lost one of our finest citizens, and we will miss him.”
