A Colorful, New Gateway to Downtown

The intersection where Main Street meets US 70, a main entrance into the downtown area,  has gotten an extensive facelift with the expectation that passersby will notice and want to stop and explore our beautiful downtown.

The area now boasts new trees, shrubs and flowers, along with decorative fencing.

"We want to catch people's attention," said Town Manager Steve Biggs. "If we can get them to stop and look around, they'll certainly like what they find."

The area will be irrigated to keep it looking good, though the town is using drought-tolerant bermuda grass as the turf. The project has the blessing of NCDOT. Biggs said plans are also in the works to landscape the other corners in the area but designs have not yet been finalized. The town is working directly with the landscaper to eliminate any design costs.

The $51,000 project is being financed with Downtown Development funds.
