Food Fair to Bring Farmers and Public Together

Leaders of the Clayton Farmers and Community Market have scheduled "2010 Johnston FRESH: A Local Fresh Food Fair" at the Clayton Center Saturday and the public is invited.

The event, scheduled for 5 to 9 pm, features a showing of the movie FRESH, a film about the importance of eating locally-grown foods. In addition, growers from all over the area will be there to meet the public and perhaps work out personal deals for farm-fresh products during the coming year.

"We have a lot of people who produce in our area," said Farmers Market Board Member Adair Pickard. "This will be helpful for them and the public."

The Market Board is also seeking sponsors to help with the cost and offer support to the Farmers Market. Any corporation, business or person interested in offering assistance is encouraged to contact Pickard at adairp16@aol.com or 919-553-6548.

Though the Fair won't actually feature fresh food, it will bring residents face-to-face with the people who grow it so they can get to know each other, and their preferences, better. The event will also feature an expert on "home plots" for residents who want to make an effort at growing their own food this year.

FRESH will be shown at 6 pm. Tickets for the movie are $5, plus a service charge of one dollar.
